Ex-Lawyer Turned Serial Entrepreneur Kendra Liew Ventures From ‘Almost Edible’ Skincare To Activewear

Fans of organic skincare will know by now how Kendra Liew puts in all her heart and soul into making each bottle of Katfood products.

If you haven’t heard of it, every concoction is made with real ingredients – no chemicals and preservatives.

So, it is pretty much almost edible.

She isn’t “Singapore’s Most Awarded Independent Beauty Brand” for nothing!

You can find her homemade skincare goodies at various retail stores in Singapore and all at affordable prices. Katfood is also now available in Thailand and Indonesia.

But this young entrepreneur isn’t ready to stop at just Katfood. I mean, she didn’t even let her lack of experience in starting and operating a business hinder her from taking that leap of faith.

Kendra has just announced that she will be launching her new line of yoga activewear, PONIYOGI.

PONIYOGI is Kendra’s “latest passion project” inspired by the idea that “Yoga is for any one, any day, anywhere“.

She wants to bring the creative, accepting, and free spirit of yoga to the masses, letting the wearer express himself or herself through their other activities and pursuits.

Like Katfood, PONIYOGI sets out to be high quality and accessible activewear for everyone.

She said, “Ponipants (the line’s pants) do not judge or discriminate,” and encouraged everyone to be the ‘People Of New Inspiration’ – what PONI stands for.

Stepping out of one’s comfort zone is no easy feat, but Kendra hopes that with PONIYOGI, she can inspire people to seek out new adventures and experiences. “Whether it is attending a yoga class for the first time, or exploring a new country, ponipants are here for you!

Despite risk-taking being in her nature, Kendra reveals delving into the fashion and apparel industry as a challenge.

But her past three years’ of experience in skincare has taught her a lot about the retail industry.

Even though both brands are in different fields of the retail industry, she was excited that she was able to apply what she has learnt with Katfood into PONIYOGI’s development.

It’s a very different experience now from when I was first starting Katfood and I’m really embracing the journey!

Through events like the upcoming launch party, Kendra also wishes to inspire everyone to be more adventurous and chase after their inspirations.

Kendra’s enthusiasm for her labels is so heartfelt as she shares with us, “It feels amazing to be able to bring two of my better ideas to life. While business ownership is always stressful, the overwhelming sense of satisfaction my job brings me makes it all worth it! I’m super excited to spend the next few years and beyond bringing my brands to greater heights.”

About The Line

Kendra said they invested a lot of time and effort in sourcing for the material and hand-dye technique.

Their big break came when they found the “perfect partners in Thailand” who work directly with artisans from the village. The artisans hand-dye each pair of ponipants but everything else is packed with love in Singapore.

So, shop for your ponipants guilt-free because the production process of each ponipants are ethical.

The artisans who dye them are fairly paid for their work, their working conditions and environment meet social standards that allow them to sustain their livelihood and craft.
