Samsung’s New Galaxy A Smartphones Cost Less Than S$500, But Come With Flagship Specs

Now that flagship phones like the Galaxy S10 and P30 have had their time to shine, it looks like phone companies are looking to fill the mid-range market with new products.

Case in point: following Google’s announcement (and immediate release) of the Pixel 3a last week, Samsung revealed two new additions to their Galaxy A line of phones today – the Galaxy A20 and Galaxy A70.

The first thing you should know about these new phones is their price – the 6.7-inch A70 and 6.4-inch A20 come in at a very affordable S$498 and S$248 respectively, which is impressive when you consider some of the features that they come with.

Both phones, for example, come with Super AMOLED displays – something that you won’t even find on some phones that cost twice as much.

The A70 and A20 are also equipped above average batteries (4,500mAh for the A70, 4,000mAh for the A20), which – based on our experience with other phones with this capacity – should easily last over a day of use.

While the cool features stop there for the A20, the A70 still has one more trick up its sleeve – a triple rear camera setup that includes a 32 megapixel wide, 5 megapixel ultrawide and 8 megapixel telephoto lens.

Considering that triple camera phones only debuted earlier this year with the aforementioned S10 and P30, it’s surprising to see a mid-range phone rocking it so soon (not that we’re complaining, of course).

The A70 will be available later this week on the 18th of May, and will be available at selected telcos, electronics & IT stores, authorised retailers, Samsung Experience Stores and Lazada. The A20, on the other hand, will be available a week later on the 25th of May at Singtel and M1 stores.

With an excellent screen for watching videos and battery life to back it up, the A20 and A70 might be the perfect phones for less technologically-inclined individuals who just need something to take calls and watch Korean dramas. A late mother’s day present, perhaps?
