Leaked Photos Of Huawei’s New Mate 30: Rear Cameras Changing From Square To Circle?

Huawei have no doubt made their mark on the 2019 smartphone arena with the P30 series, but the Chinese tech giant isn’t done just yet.

Yup, we’re talking about the Mate series — Huawei’s other, higher-end flagship line which usually releases sometime in the second half of the year.

Last year’s Mate 20 Pro was quite the game-changer, being one of the first phones to implement a quad-camera setup and introducing innovative new features like reverse wireless charging.

And while it’s too early for Huawei themselves to reveal anything about this year’s iteration, a possible leak on Chinese social network Weibo has given us a possible preview of how it might look like.

Posted by user @ichangezone, it’s unclear whether the image is showing the Mate 30 or Mate 30 Pro (we’re assuming they’ll be using the same naming conventions). Whichever it is, there are some interesting design changes here.

The most noticeable change comes from the rear camera, which sports a circular design to house its four Leica-engineered cameras. Previous models used a square design, and we’re still on the fence on which one we like better.

The text at the bottom of the housing also suggests that the Mate 30 will come with 5x Optical Zoom, which is par for course with the P30 Pro.

Of course, there’s no way to determine how accurate this leak is, but considering how far we are from the Mate 30’s release (the Mate 20 was released in November last year), a little speculation now and then doesn’t hurt.
