For The Earth, By Gamers: Razer Donating $1 To Plant A Tree With Every FB Share

Climate change is real, and for one, we’ve seen more individuals doing their part to reduce their use of disposables by bringing metal straws and reusable containers around for food takeaway.

Companies have also been increasingly stepping up efforts to show that they are, too, part of this movement.

For example, hundreds of F&B outlets in Singapore have stopped providing plastic straws, and supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice has extended its ‘No Plastic Bag’ trial at 25 stores until 11 Nov 2020.

Food delivery companies Deliveroo, foodpanda, and GrabFood have also joined the movement, and stopped providing plastic cutlery with orders unless requested by customers.

Now, another company has pledged its support to going green.

Giving A New Meaning To ‘Razer Green’

A few days back, Razer founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan did a poll on Facebook, asking his 558k followers what they think about the #TeamTrees initiative where every $1 donated goes towards planting one tree.

For context, the #TeamTrees initiative was started in May 2019 by YouTubers MrBeast and Mark Rober, and they have a goal to plant 20 million trees by 2020.

Every $1 plants one tree, and at time of writing, 16,194,706 trees have been planted so far.

“We’re huge believers in sustainability at Razer and would love to see how we can do more to give back to the planet and help #teamtrees meet its 20M tree target,” wrote Tan, ending the post by asking his followers if the movement was something they’d like to see Razer being involved in.

Tan’s poll closed with an overwhelming majority (93%) voting ‘YES! Every tree counts!’.

Yesterday, Razer revealed that due to the support on Tan’s poll, they will be donating $1 to #TeamTrees for every Facebook share on their post.

They will be donating based on the final amount of shares on 9 December 2019.
