Grab’s New Insurance Plan Ride Cover Lets You Claim Accidents, Late Pick-Ups For S$0.30/Trip

Ride-hailing firm Grab has recently launched a new insurance plan for its riders.

Called Ride Cover, it offers coverage for personal accidents and pick-up delays. It is applicable for all Grab rides, except GrabShare, GrabHitch and GrabCoach.

Grab users can opt in to Ride Cover via the app’s Insurance tile at only $0.30 per trip. Do note that the opt in is a one-time affair, so the fee will be added to every eligible ride.

To opt out, you can tap into the Ride Cover plan under ‘My Plans’ tab, which is parked in the Insurance tile.

With Ride Cover, riders will enjoy benefits of up to $100,000 under a Personal Accident plan on top of Grab’s existing coverage.

Currently, Grab’s existing coverage protects riders from pick-up to drop-off in the event of an accident for free. It allows riders to claim up to $13,500 in the event of an Accidental Death or Permanent Disablement, and up to $700 for medical expenses.

Additionally, riders will get a $5 Grab ride voucher if their pickup arrives 10 minutes later than the displayed waiting time shown in-app. This is especially advantageous when things like unexpected traffic jams happen.

Riders will only receive the voucher if they complete the ride, which can be found under the ‘My Rewards’ tab in GrabRewards.

Beyond these, Grab is also offering free COVID-19 coverage for those who opt into Ride Cover anytime between March 1 and 15.

If riders are diagnosed with COVID-19 within the coverage period, they will receive a lump sum payment of $500. This coverage is valid from the day of opt in till 15 April 2020.
