Surgical masks are integral in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, and it looks like Razer is doing their part to ensure that health authorities continue to have an adequate supply.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said that the gaming peripheral company has converted some of their manufacturing lines to produce surgical masks, and will be donating them to countries around the world.
“While there has been incredible demand for our product during this time with many staying home to avoid the crowds (and to play games), the team at Razer understands that all of us have a part to play in fighting the virus – no matter which industry we come from” he said.
According to Tan, his designers and engineers have been working 24-hour shifts to facilitate this move (we can’t imagine the logistics involved to pivot from keyboards to medical equipment), and intends to donate up to one million masks.
Razer has already spoken to the Singaporean authorities to donate their initial shipment, while their regional offices are reaching out to their respective governments to assess where they should prioritise their support.
Tan also said that producing and donating masks is “the first step of many that Razer will take,” and urged both individuals and companies who wish to help to reach out to them as they “need all the help we can”.
“All of us have a part to play and we should be doing whatever we can with the situation getting more serious.”
