Two weeks into Singapore’s “circuit breaker”, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed the surge in COVID-19 cases among the foreign worker community.
While cases among Singaporeans and PRs have remained low, most new cases are coming from foreign worker dormitories daily.
Today, Singapore reported 1,111 new cases, out of which 1,050 of the infected people were foreign workers.
So far, none of the infected migrant workers have needed supplemental oxygen or intensive care.
PM Lee said that the Government will be stepping up medical resources allocated to foreign worker dormitories.
“All the major dorms are supported by dedicated teams of doctors and nurses,” said Lee.
He added that more medical personnel will be deployed to “make sure that anyone with fever or flu symptoms receives appropriate and timely medical treatment”.
Older workers, who are more vulnerable to the coronavirus, will also receive special attention. They are being moved to a separate dormitory to be monitored more closely.
“To our migrant workers, let me emphasise again: We will care for you, just like we care for Singaporeans,” said PM Lee.
