S’pore startup Charge+ launches “Turbo” EV chargers for public use, can fully charge in 30 mins

Charge+ announced today (February 17) the official launch of its network of “Turbo” fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

At a direct current (DC) power rating of up to 120kW, it is dubbed the fastest public EV charger in Singapore as it is considerably faster than the 50kW power rating predominantly found in other public fast chargers.

These new “Turbo” chargers will be located at six different locations across Singapore — Axxel Innovation Centre (free parking), Mah Building (free parking), OCBC Centre, orchardgateway, StorHub 743 Toa Payoh and UE Square.

They will complement Charge’s existing network, and allow EV drivers to fully charge their EVs in just about 30 minutes.

Last year, Charge+ had opened its public charging network in Singapore, with an initial focus on its proprietary Alternating Current (AC) ultra-slim chargers that are suitable for residential and workplace charging.

Designed to be compact, this charger is slated to be the world’s slimmest commercial EV charger.

Charge+ currently has 12 operational fast charging points, with another 22 to be ready by mid-2022, with locations including Century Square, Ci Yuan Community Club, CT Hub 2, Jalan Kayu carpark, Northpoint City, Tang Plaza, Tiong Bahru Plaza and Waterway Point.

Charge+ has placed emphasis on finding optimal locations for the fast charging stations, with considerations such as proximity to retail, food and beverage outlets, and expressways, or even free parking to enhance convenience for EV drivers.

By the end of this year, the Charge+ network will have at least 50 fast charging points, propelling its ambition to install about 1,000 charging points located in both public and private premises by end-2022.

By 2030, Charge+ aims to set up 10,000 EV charging points islandwide, including condominiums.

EV drivers living in condominiums that opt to use Charge+’s charging service will pay a fixed monthly fee on a subscription basis. Under this subscription model, users will be given a certain threshold of energy per month for a monthly fee.

“Charge+ is today the only comprehensive EV charging solution provider in Singapore, through serving the HDB, condominium, commercial and industrial building segments,” said Goh Chee Kiong, CEO of Charge+.

“The new public fast charging network from Charge+ will be highly complementary to our regular charging stations implemented in residential estates and workplaces. We believe that this major milestone will further boost Singapore’s ongoing transition of its land transport sector to take up more electric vehicles.”

In 2021, the Charge+-led consortium won Singapore’s first ever government tender for EV charging infrastructure in governmental carparks.

Under this tender, Charge+ will install more than 150 charging points and had started operating EV charging stations in HDB towns such as Punggol, Woodlands and Yishun, with more towns to come.

In end-2021, Charge+ also became the first charging operator to receive EV Common Charger Grant (ECCG) support from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), and was also the first to implement charging stations in condominiums under this national programme.
