Today, a new generation of street food lovers are lining up at food trucks like never before. On top of conventional brick-and-mortar restaurants or street stalls which already made Malaysia a food heaven, Malaysians now have another lip-smacking choice! Just like restaurants, they produce high quality and delicious food but with their on-the-wheel advantage, it means that these mouthwatering food trucks can be at any time near you, or even in the compound of your house if you want them to be! But one thing is for sure: the aroma of food truck cuisine will soon waft through the downtown streets of Malaysia, especially in the Klang Valley. Let’s check out the Top 10 Trending Food Trucks that you should flock to!

1. La Famiglia Food Truck

We bet you have never tried Pastas cooked by the Italian Mafias. To be precise, top-notch-yummylicious pastas. Introducing to you the one-and-only unique La Famiglia, an Italian mafia themed food truck. La Famiglia is the pasta specialist you would be glad to see parked around your neighborhood. And don’t worry: if they are mafias, they would be the friendliest ones you will find. In fact, the founders of La Famiglia came from vastly different backgrounds such as banking, construction and animation.

Often spotted at Dungun in the daytime, and at Subang (SS15) at night, La Famiglia gained traction and reputation in recent years by emerging as the crème de la crème of food trucks. This success is largely built upon their passion and dedication of serving perfecto pastas. Oh and their inexpensive prices make a difference too!

3. Burger Giler Power

1422958715862

While most of us are familiar with burger stalls set up around the streets of Malaysia, we hardly come across ones that move around on wheels. Burger Giler Power is one such on-the-go burger truck that you will often see at Taman Melawati, in front of Espresso Lab from 5 to 10pm. Barely into its first year of business, Burger Giler Power has quickly gained a substantial fan base — especially amongst those living around Taman Melawati — with its signature mouthwatering gourmet burgers.

Can’t picture the goodness? Imagine charcoal buns, homemade patties, and fresh ingredients combined with juicy sauces. That’s right! It is their signature gourmet burgers we are talking about, and just to name a few, do try out their Classic Cheese Burger, Cajun Chicken Burger and The Chief Burger. On the sidelines, their crispy mushroom and chicken broccoli salad are worth trying too!

4. The Laughing Monkey Cafe

1422958782176 Hate it when you have to look for a car park just to have a cup of coffee? Feel annoyed when you have to walk some distance during lunch time just to buy a coffee? Look out for The Laughing Monkey Café, a truck dedicated to providing you with affordable, rich, freshly brewed coffee and delicious sandwiches at your doorstep. And trust us, it is easy to spot the Orangey cute little truck of The Laughing Monkey.

You would be wrong to think that coffee served from a truck will not be any good. The Laughing Monkey’s coffee (and hot chocolate) would top the coffees of many brick-and-mortar cafes out there. And why not give them a try, when they come straight to your doorstep? The Laughing Monkey Café was founded when two colleagues, Kelvin and Justine, were caught in the rain while they were walking some distance from their office just to get a coffee.

5. Curbside Cantina

1422958930170

Serving up tacos and other Mexican treats, Curbside Cantina is a Mexican influenced food truck that you’ll find quite interesting. At least, it’s not just another food truck serving you the conventional western cuisine. While this colorful truck does not really have a fixed spot (perhaps Bangsar would be your best bet), their creative menu of good food is their best selling point. After all, Chilli Con Carne with Papadums, Cemita Burger, Chicken Quesa Tacos, Steak Tacos, Beef Cubano Sandwich and Churros are not the usual words you see on other trucks.

Also be rest assured of the standard of Curbside Cantina, as it is an extension of a catering company called Cantina Moderna. The founders & team have been in the catering scene since 2006, and even ran a restaurant, Pink Sage, from 2008 to 2011. Now, go catch this Cantina On-The-Go.

6. Cowboys Food Truck

Launched on 7 Dec 2014, Cowboys Food Truck is one of the newcomers with their Texas-inspired western barbeque dishes. It was founded by 2 “cowboys”, Ku Azharul Nizar bin Ku Abdul Rahman and Christopher Tang, and a “cowgirl” Chong Rhu Jan, who are all pretty much in love with barbeque food. Cowboys’ menu is a reflection of Nizar’s years in Dallas, Texas. Combined with Christopher’s F&B experiences gained in Australia, as well as Ru Jan’s assistance in marketing and promotion, the idea of Cowboys Food Truck was conceived to serve the most authentic American-style barbeque food around the neighbourhood.

If you’re a fan of barbecued food, don’t forget to try out their speciality — Flame-grilled Chicken Wings, which come with choices of Garlic Parmesan or Spicy BBQ. Also look out for the Chuck Norris platter, which consists of sliced smoked beef brisket, crispy buttermilk fried chicken chop and Chuck Norris certified delish wings. Better still: try both!  You’ll never get bored of their menu because they are creative enough to rotate their menu items every single day. Do catch them around Subang Jaya or follow their Facebook and Instagram for location updates.

It surfaces on most nights at Subang SS15, where you’ll see a crowd building up from 8pm onwards. There is also a makeshift dining space by the street provided for their customers, because the waiting time can go beyond 15 minutes during peak hours.

The aglio olio is a must-try! Pasta is served with a choice of chicken or beef, with a generous seasoning of chilli flakes and Italian herbs to give a perfect spicy rendition of the classic Italian fare. For mains, you wouldn’t want to miss their tender chicken confit and grilled fish. The former consists of a whole chicken leg served atop mashed potatoes, while the dory fillet is grilled to perfection with a generous serving of Hollandaise sauce and mashed potatoes. And yes, they serve desserts too! The simple yet delicious homemade milk puddings will definitely remain unforgettable. Overall, the affordable yet delicious Italian and French fare from a food truck has proven to be a big hit amongst college students and professionals within the city.
