Whether you’re someone who can’t let a meal go by without snapping a photo, or the one sighing impatiently as you watch the food go cold, the art of food photography just got a lot more interesting.
3DAround, the brainchild of Swiss software company Dacuda, is a mobile photography app that captures your food in all its three-dimensional glory. As you revolve your camera around a dish, the app takes a quick succession of photos, and automatically knits them together. The end product? A single, interactive image that the user can swivel around for a 360-degree view.
With this free app, made publicly available in the App Store last month, you’ll no longer have to hover around your meal, hunting for that perfect angle. 3DAround turns your smartphone into a device that can capture depth and structure from all angles.
While this app is currently only compatible with devices running on iOS 8.0 and up, non-Apple users need not feel too left out. Users of the app can save and share their 3D images as links, so even if you don’t have the app, you can still enjoy the photos on a web browser. Soon, your social media feeds may be flooded with holographic, strangely hypnotizing images.
