MOF And FINAS Collab To Improve Job-Seeking In The Malaysian Creative Industry

For fresh graduates, the conundrum of finding a job is always at the back of their minds and the traditional way to look for vacancies—especially when the job one is looking for is in the creative industry—would be to utilise platforms such as Jobstreet and more recently, Wobb as well.

However, there is now a new way that creative beings are able to look for a job and all they need to do is to download an app known as ‘Kr8tif Express‘. For job-seekers looking for roles of anything along the likes of multimedia designer, junior producer, or as a sound engineer, these niche jobs may be a little difficult to find on job portals like Jobstreet, but as this app is particularly catered to those in the artistic line, it is therefore an easier way to look for the desired jobs which are available all in one location.

Besides scouring through job placements, the app also provides readers with local news in the creative sector and upcoming festivals that users may be interested in. The Kr8tif Express app was recently introduced at the International Market of Communications Programmes (MIPCOM) 2015 in Cannes, France and is a venture in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and FINAS (Multimedia and National Film Development Corporation).

“The app is dedicated to track the growth of the Malaysian creative industry, allows the country to stay competitive on a global scale, and keep the stakeholders up-to-date on Malaysia’s achievements,” said FINAS at MIPCOM 2015.

How It Works

Users would be delighted to know that there is such an app that could aid them in their employment, especially seeing since this app is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

Upon clicking to enter the predominantly yellow-coloured app, users are brought to a homepage whereby the menu side panel provides KKMM as well as FINAS updates. It is good to always keep up to speed on the news surrounding the creative sector in Malaysia, and this dedicated segment helps users to do just that.

However, the most interesting section in the app is the page ‘Industry Vacancy’ whereby users are led to a comprehensive page which provides the listings of job vacancies including the company and the positions available. Thus far, companies like iflix, Inspedia, Giggle Garage, Kyanite and Just Mobile have joined in on posting up their job vacancies via the app.

This helps the employment process in both ways as companies can also opt to post their job vacancies on the app for free whilst having potential employees scroll through the app.

Verdict: 2.5/5

Though the app is useful and innovative, what it can definitely improve on would be to perhaps have lesser functions. Even while news and articles may be useful, the app has one too many things on it, that can lead it to crash from time to time.

What the creators of Kr8tif Express can improve on would be to simplify the app, and a user even commented that the content is good but everything is too crowded. The app could do with one less function, especially on the homepage.

Currently, the homepage displays news and articles regarding MIPCOM 2015 and other articles, but due to these larger contents complete with images, it would lead to the application crashing. Should the homepage display the ‘Industry Vacancy’ section, it would be better as that would be easier for users who are looking for the job segments only.

Also, if more companies were to come on board to provide their job vacancies and to expand on the job postings available, it would prove to be more helpful for users. As of now, only an average of 20 companies have listed their available positions.

Kr8tif Express can look toward adding more companies on board in the future to make the app more relevant as a one-stop place where users can source for jobs as well as be up to date with all the happenings in the local creative industry.
