Wedding videos are just like children. You don’t really care about others’, you only care about your own. And with the peak wedding season around, there’re gonna be a lot more coming your way. Expect a lot of mush, and running into the sunset, lalang fields, eye contact, wardrobe changes, quirky indie tune soundtracks — that sort of thing.
But there’re also the left-off-centre ones that make you forget you’re watching the video documentation of a couple about to join in matrimonial bliss. The ones that shock, the ones that make you go wow, and the ones that make you laugh. Basically, wedding videos don’t always have to suck. Here are some that made us go “Brava” in our seats.

Newlyweds Ivan Ng and Kimberley Olsen are not fans of video montages but they’re huge fans of the Beastie Boys. By far the chillest and the illest wedding video out there, we love how they did without all the looking into each other’s eyes, coy giggling, and hugging and decided to shoot a video with a loved one reenacting a video they love. True love and geekery here.
The Spoil Market For Everyone
You’re both beautiful and have the power of television behind you — what do you do? Just keep on being you, of course. When television presenters George Young and Janet Hsieh got married, they did it at the Antarctica. With penguins and ice, and a backdrop that was not a green screen, the photogenic couple tied the knot in the most memorable fashion.
The Artsy Couple
Beautifully shot by production company apparatus, with a backstory on how the couple met, Razi and Nurfaizah’s wedding video is quiet and triumphant, just like how love should be. Another wedding video without clunky wedding dresses and cheesy music.
The Geeky Ones
When the boss of a production company, Bluesheep weds, you can expect nothing less than an epic saga with full costume. Wacky and funny, this adorable and geeky wedding video is all the right sorts of cheesy.
The Couple Who Likes To Goof Around
Bad wigs, dialects, short shorts, epic poop session, breakout hit of 2015, Unbelievable: this video has it all. Johnny and Yintong’s tale is a true Singaporean love story well shot by the people at Elevated Media.
The Traditional (But Not Quite)
The video opens with “A Tale of Desperate Passion” and although it is a photo montage, don’t expect the prettiest of pictures. The groom, Tony said he wanted to have a bit of a laugh with his wedding video and put it together himself. It’s refreshing and really funny — there’s a selfie picture with the caption “she loves vanity but not babies”.
The Boy Band Fanclub
One word: choreography. That is essential in all boy band videos. One Direction’s ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, interspersed with real footage of the wedding day, this cheesy video will be quite the memory for Joanne and Sean when they look through it 10-20 years down the line.
