If you are familiar with Kuching, the capital of Sarawak in east Malaysia, you would know that public transportation is not that widely utilize as almost everyone owns their own transportation. Because of that, Kuching is perhaps one of the most improbably Malaysian city for MyTeksi is focus its efforts on.

Taxi charges are somewhat reasonable in Kuching. Although taxis are metered, the drivers seldom use it and sometimes will slightly overcharge. They may also hide the meter behind a rudimentary cover and claim to have no meter. Short trips around town should cost between RM6 and RM10. There’s usually no problem flagging one down on main streets, even late at night.

Taxi users are primarily looking for greater safety and convenience. Safety is a big issue for riders in Malaysia, though in Kuching, crime rates seem to be dropping every year. Records showed a total of 4,525 criminal cases in 2010, followed by 3,874 in 2011 and 3,204 in 2012. In 2013, there were only 2600 cases reported.

MyTeksi hopes to offer an increased peace of mind to passengers by enabling trackability through its app.

To promote its awareness and getting more users from Kuching onboard, each MyTeksi booking in Kuching, made between 13 March and 30 April 2014, will automatically be entered to a contest with a chance to win an iPhone 5c. Users just have to download the app and start booking taxis through it.

MyTeksi is available on the Apple app store, Google Play and BlackBerry.
