In February, Singapore telco Circles.Life launched a new device insurance plan called Circles PhoneProtect, which looks to benefit the most clumsy of phone users.

Launched in partnership with HL Assurance, the insurance arm of the Hong Leong Group, the plan lets phone owners get their damaged devices (from cracked screens to water damage) fixed anytime.

The coverage is valid for 12 months, and, in true Circles.Life fashion, is not bound to any contract.

As for the premium, it’s a pretty low $7/month, but the insurance is only available to Circles.Life customers, and the devices need to be less than a year old to be eligible.

For those who aren’t Circles.Life customers, or have older devices, however, there’s another option from DBS that might just tickle your fancy.

Coverage For In-Box Accessories, Unauthorised Transactions And Cash Withdrawals

Called Mobile Protect, the plan stems from a partnership between DBS and insurance provider Chubb, and covers new and existing phones (up to 36 months old).

Customers will also be able to enjoy worldwide coverage.

The plan will protect both devices and their in-box accessories from loss, theft, and damage.

But more than that, it will also cover unauthorised transactions and usage of airtime and data, plus reimbursement of withdrawn cash due to cash out robbery and replacement of documents such as a customer’s IC, passport or driving license.

However, it is important to note the deductibles applicable to cases.

For example, in the case of damage, a customer will still need to fork out $75 for each repair case.

In the case of a loss or theft, be prepared to pay $150 to get a replacement phone.

Mobile Protect is also an annual policy, but those interested in trying it out before committing will be able to do so with its “14-day free look period”.
