M’sia MVNO redONE Launches In S’pore – Plans Start As Low As $8 For 3GB

Malaysian mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) redONE officially launched their mobile services in Singapore following a successful trial launch in May.

Based on feedback gathered during the trial, redONE added more data to its basic plans, from 3GB to 10GB with monthly subscriptions starting from $8 a month.

For the heavy users of social media, there’s the redSOCIAL Lite plan that gives users 10GB of Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, and YouTube data for $10 a month.

Its previous redSOCIAL bundle, which costs $18 for 20GB of data, is still available together with their 1GB/5GB/10GB data add-on options.

redONE also offers SMS add-ons at $2 for 50 SMSes and $3 for 100 SMSes.

Singapore redONE customers can also use their data in Malaysia without incurring any extra roaming charges.

Even after their bundle is depleted, Singapore customers will still be able to surf, chat, and post at a reduced connection speed, with no roaming fees.

“In reality, the average consumer only uses around 3GB a month and up to 500MB a day when they are roaming,” said redONE Singapore CEO Francis Cheang.

“So we don’t believe in high monthly fees and making consumers pay for what they don’t really need.”

Cheang was formerly the Vice President for Finance at Starhub where he had a tenure of 15 years.

Established in Malaysia in 2012, redONE describes itself as a popular budget postpaid mobile provider and the first MVNO in Asia.

It claims to have over one million active subscribers.

redONE Malaysia uses Celcom Axiata as its network provider while redONE Singapore taps on Starhub’s network.

CEO of redONE Group, Farid Yunus expressed confidence in the face of competition in Singapore.

“This is our eighth year operating in Malaysia and we have continued to grow there against six telcos and at one point, 18 other MVNOs.”

“Almost all the others have since shut down but redONE continues to thrive, and based on our track record, we look forward to doing the same in Singapore.”

The firm is setting up a dealer network with 200 ‘Neighbourhood Centres’ across Singapore that lets individuals become redONE agents and earn perpetual recurring commissions.

redONE will announce, soon, a partnership with a leading IT chain store that will make redONE available in all major shopping malls in Singapore.

They are aiming to launch their business in other regional markets and expand its data roaming service to other countries with the vision of creating a single ASEAN service.
