Malaysian mobile service provider redONE is the latest mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to hit our shores.
Founded in 2012, redONE has about 1 million subscribers in Malaysia, and uses Celcom Axiata as its network provider.
Back in 2017, redONE chief marketing officer Danny Chin had shared the firm’s plans to enter the Singapore market by November that year.
It also revealed its vision to eventually become the “largest MVNO in the region”.
November 2017 came and passed, and while other MVNOs have popped up in Singapore since then, redONE Singapore’s chief executive officer Francis Cheang has revealed its wish to “create a single redONE community linking Singapore and Malaysia”.
Monthly plans under redONE Singapore cost $8 to $28, and customers will not incur any data roaming charges if they use their high-speed data bundles in Malaysia.
Even after using up their high-speed data quota, customers will still be able to use the internet for no extra charge, albeit at a lower connection speed.
redONE Singapore customers will get up to 300 minutes of free calls and 30 SMSes to other Singapore telcos and Malaysian numbers.
They will also get 1,000 free minutes of talktime to other redONE numbers, regardless of package.
For those who live and breathe social media, an $18 add-on called ‘redSocial bundle’ will get them an extra 20GB of data access to Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, and Youtube.
redONE added that “more bundles for heavy video, chat and voice users will be launched in the near future”.
Trial Perks
Early adopters of redONE Singapore will receive an additional 50 minutes of call time, alongside having their registration and SIM card fees waived.
During the one-month trial period, data roaming to all countries will also be free, with quotas capped based on users’ plans.
To qualify for this, however, customers would need to provide feedback to the firm on their roaming experience “so that redONE can improve the service”.
