Today, online classifieds platform Carousell announced a partnership with the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) that will enable the verification of user profiles via MyInfo, in a bid to help users “deal with greater confidence”.
MyInfo was created to let Singapore citizens and residents manage the use of their basic government-verified personal details for online verification.
Carousell is the first marketplace platform to leverage on MyInfo.
“Fraud and scams are an industry-wide challenge, and creating a layer of accountability and trust is one step in addressing the issue. We hope that our partnership with GovTech can be a catalyst for the marketplace sector to leverage Singapore’s National Digital Identity (NDI) platform to further improve the ecommerce experience for users,” said Su Lin Tan, Vice President of Operations, Carousell.
Added Kwok Quek Sin, Senior Director, National Digital Identity, GovTech: “Digital transactions are now commonplace, it is therefore crucial for businesses to offer higher levels of assurance for users transacting on their platforms.”
“Carousell’s integration of MyInfo offers a trusted and secure way to prove identities online and minimise identity fraud risk. We will continue to work with more industry partners to build a robust and trusted online ecosystem.”
The verification step is optional, and can be enabled by logging onto your Singpass account via the Carousell app.
Verified Carousell users will then receive a verified badge on their profile.
Users will also be free to deactivate their verification by unlinking their profile from their SingPass account. This can be done at any point of time.
