AirAsia announced in a press release today (June 14) that it is calling for interested fresh produce and groceries merchants in Singapore to join its delivery platform.

New groceries merchants who are successfully onboarded will enjoy a zero per cent commission rate for the first month.

Keen merchants can list their fresh produce, groceries and sundry daily necessities on the AirAsia platform via a form, and they will be contacted by the AirAsia team within 48 hours for the next course of action.

This move signifies AirAsia’s entry into the grocery delivery space in Singapore, but the company did not disclose when the new service would be launched.

“After the successful launch of AirAsia food here in February, we are now ready to expand our e-commerce offerings to include other categories as well such as fresh produce, groceries and sundry delivery,” said Lim Ben-Jie, head of e-commerce for AirAsia super app.

In March, AirAsia launched its food delivery in Singapore, marking its first overseas foray. Its expansion to Singapore is part of the company’s efforts to seek alternative income sources as the aviation sector continues to be badly affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At launch, AirAsia food featured about 80 restaurants, with about 300 other restaurants being onboarded onto the platform subsequently.

AirAsia now joins the ranks of other super apps that have launched grocery delivery services in Singapore.

Earlier in May, Grab announced the launch of GrabSupermarket in Singapore as part of a strategic expansion of GrabMart, Grab’s on-demand everyday goods delivery service.

It houses over 5,000 unique products from HAO mart spanning the categories of meat and poultry, vegetables, frozen food, dry goods and instant foods, dairy products, condiments, snacks, drinks and non-food essentials.
