A fake announcement about Lee Kuan Yew’s death has been circulating around social media, where people are waiting for news on Mr. Lee’s deteriorating condition.

The fake website, attempting to copy the Prime Minister’s Office website, showed an announcement that Mr Lee had passed earlier at 5.30pm.

What makes matters worst was that many credible news sources, such as Phoenix Chinese News, China’s CCTV, and even CNN, had taken the fake picture as fact, and tweeted a release that Mr Lee had passed on prematurely. This confused many concerned Singaporeans and even incurred the ire of some who believed that CNN should have checked their facts before posted the tweet.
