Deliveroo partners WhyQ to expand its Mix & Match, to onboard over 50 hawker centres by 2022

Food delivery giant Deliveroo announced yesterday (December 1) its partnership with hawker food delivery startup WhyQ to expand its Mix & Match concept to hawker centres.

This means that Deliveroo customers can get access to a wider variety of local delights in a single order for the same delivery fee, while easing operational challenges for stall owners.

Hawkers can focus on serving up delicious dishes, without having to worry about operational considerations such as manpower and food delivery device management.

For example, device managers will help disseminate, centralise and organise orders between hawkers and Deliveroo riders. These dedicated personnel will also be the one communicating with customers and Deliveroo’s customer service agents.

The partnership will first pilot 15 hawkers from December 13, and will gradually onboard over 50 hawker centres by the end of 2022.

Varun Saraf, co-founder and CEO of WhyQ noted that small food businesses such as hawkers have taken a significant hit over the past months due to the pandemic and dine-in restrictions.

The startup has developed solutions to help hawkers with their digital transformation and this partnership with Deliveroo will not only “enable hawkers to expand their income streams, but also broaden their customer base more effectively.”

“We are excited to partner WhyQ to provide Deliveroo customers with more convenient access to the local delights they crave, while helping hawkers to increase orders and revenue by streamlining their operations. Deliveroo understands the challenges that hawkers face while trying to pivot to online delivery during the pandemic, and we hope this partnership will help to address some of these challenges,” said Sarah Tan, general manager of Deliveroo Singapore.

In a bid to show its support for the local hawker community, Deliveroo will offer free delivery for the first two weeks of January and February 2022 for those who spend a minimum of S$20 across 15 selected hawkers under Deliveroo’s Mix & Match concept, limited to up to 2,000 redemptions.
