Persona Q is one amazing role playing game (we gave it a near perfect score). With a stellar cast of charming characters, an awesome soundtrack that is an aural treat, addictive combat that is challenging, yet ultimately rewarding — it’s not to be missed if you are a fan of role playing games.
If you have already bought the game and are playing it this very moment, here are some general tips to be mindful of as you try to figure out and fight your way through the game’s tough dungeons.
Save Often
It goes without saying that Persona Q’s enemies are no pushovers. Even on Normal difficulty, there were numerous occasions when my party was decimated because I was simply underleveled and unprepared to face some of the tougher enemies. Hours of progress could have been lost, and that is simply not fun at all. Never underestimate the game’s enemies.
Every FOE Encounter Can Be Avoided
The ever present FOE’s can be a pain to deal with, as some not only pursue you relentlessly, but block your path and whittle down your health with alarming ease. But they can be avoided with careful planning and forethought. Don’t just rush to the next floor: think, learn the moving patterns of the FOE, and you will do just fine.
Complete Elizabeth’s Requests
Completing requests are a great way to gain invaluable experience, as they benefit not only party members who completed said request, but also your entire team. Since requests are varied and fun to solve, repetition doesn’t become a factor. If anything, I looked forward to completing them.
Fuse Different Personas
Personas are a manifestation of a person’s personality. They can be summoned during battles, and grant the player the means with which to attack opponents and offer support to party members. In the game, personas can also be fused with one another to create even better personas. By actively fusing, personas can pass key abilities and traits, making battles more manageable. Experiment with different pairings, and you will find effective Personas that offer the most synergy and balance for your team.
Draw Your Own Map Diligently
The map drawing feature of Persona Q is one neat addition, and one that you will be using constantly (unless you turn on auto-draw). It is generally a good idea to record every clue the game throws at you, as the puzzles and movement of the FOE’s get tougher with each dungeon. The map also has an auto-movement function that lets your characters walk in a continuous loop, which is good for leveling. This is only recommended when you feel confident enough to tackle a dungeon without breaking a sweat. You can leave the game running for a couple of hours and build up some experience points!
Test Out Different Party Formations
Having a good mixture of close combat and ranged members is essential. As each member is tied to a particular element — be it electric, fire, wind or ice — it is a good idea to keep a varied team that can counter the enemies’ weaknesses and vice versa. Don’t be afraid to try out an unconventional team as it could surprise you with its results.
Fight Fight Fight
Fighting enemies often will yield precious experience points that will help level up your characters. Rather than run away from a fight, embrace them, and revel in the sheer joy of eliminating the enemy. As more enemies are defeated, key spoils that are dropped from defeating them can be used to create better weapons, accessories and also items that will give your team a fighting chance against tougher adversaries.
