GrabTaxi is offering passengers with yet another round of discounted rides this weekend, and the reason for this couldn’t be sweeter: Anthony Tan, CEO and co-founder of the taxi-booking app, is getting married!

He will be tying the knot with Chloe Tong (of The Edge Media Group) in a private ceremony this weekend, and in a press release, they announced that they will “share the love” with users by giving them S$15 off two GrabCar rides on 27 — 28 June (Saturday and Sunday).

To claim the S$15 discounts, commuters will simply have to book a GrabCar ride through the GrabTaxi app, and enter the promo code GrabLove. The S$15 waive will apply to the first two rides each user books through the app. For more details about the GrabLove campaign, go here.

The GrabLove Love Story

In an unexpected, but nonetheless adorable reveal, the couple shared that despite them only meeting via a mutual friend back in 2014, their respective families did in fact have quite a lot in common. Both their great-grandfathers, for example, were taxi drivers back in the day. Their grandfathers also worked in the automobile industry back in their prime.

We bet the couple's great-grandfathers would never have imagined how different the taxi industry is today.

Their families became even more closely linked in recent years: Chloe’s father and Anthony’s uncle – who have been best friends since childhood – later founded Phileo Allied Bank together in the 1990s, while Anthony’s mother and Chloe’s aunt attended the same school.

In the press release, the proud groom-to-be said, “There are instances in life when you just know what you’re doing is right. It happened to me when I started GrabTaxi, because we wanted to help people and change the lives of our drivers. The same can be said of this marriage. I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with Chloe. This has definitely changed my life for the better.”

Update: We’ve just heard from a GrabTaxi spokesperson that the proposal was made during the launch of their Singapore R&D tech centre, and that their new private car arm, GrabCar, will be their main mode of transport for the wedding.

In true GrabTaxi fashion, the happy couple will also be arriving at their wedding in — you guessed it — a taxi! The couple will be making their entrance in a white, old school London cab, which will be decorated with flowers.

Anthony has made no secret of the fact that GrabTaxi was started in part to better the lives of their riders. In a previous interview with Tech in Asia, where he gave a shout-out to the women in his life, he explained, “We wanted our women to feel safe. I can put my girlfriend, mom, sister in the taxi and know they will reach the destination safely. This was very important to me right from the start.”

All together now: Awww! The Vulcan Post team sends our heartfelt congratulations to the happy couple!
