It’s pretty obvious that everyone has their own preferences when it comes to audio. You may enjoy listening to concert-level volumes while your friend wants to throw their shoes at you for being way too loud; but who doesn’t love clear and clean audio quality?

Normally, when it comes to good audio quality on smartphones, people would turn to HTC smartphones and their Boomsound Speakers. But what about those who favour Apple devices over Android devices? Well look no further.

The AMP Case

Introducing the AMP case for iPhones by SoundFocus co-founders Alex Selig and Varun Srinivasan. The case works as an external speaker that automatically adjusts the audio levels according to the environment to ensure the best audio experience for users.

Selig and Srinivasan, who met while working at Microsoft, call the feature dynamic noise reduction. It analyses music and noise, and tunes elements of the music accordingly. It’s constantly listening to what’s around you with its built-in microphone.

How does this work in real life?

Say you’re walking along the streets and a bunch of cars and buses start driving by. The sound will get adjusted in a way that’s not louder, just more discernible.

The AMP can go twice as loud as the original iPhone speakers without any loss in audio quality. It also has a Lightning port on the bottom part of the case so you don’t have to remove the case every time you need to charge your device. Furthermore, the case doubles as an extended battery, with SoundFocus claiming that the AMP will give an additional 25% of battery life.

AMP Case on Speakerphone

The case, once in use with an iPhone, can be used with any earphone or headphone if you want to listen to music privately. Even then, the sound quality will be improved, without the need of having a noise-cancelling earphone. With this, you will save the hassle of carrying around external speakers, having to find an additional power source for external speakers and have the added benefit of high quality audio on your smartphone.

With its dual front-facing speaker setup, it does seem similar to HTC’s Boomsound speakers, which is great. Playing games on the iPhone will feel more immersive as the audio will be directed towards the user. Think of the case as a jacket for regular people.

An external speaker that protects your phone and increases the battery life, what’s not to love? The downside is that the case has not been released to the public yet but is available for pre-order.
