For all the geeky friends out there, after the big hoo-ha created by the launch of Apple iPhone 6, another long waited product, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is set to meet fans in Malaysia next Wednesday, October 15. According to a report by TechNave, Samsung Malaysia has already had the invites for the launching event sent out to the media.
“Our invite revealed that we’ll all know a bit more on 15 October 2014,” TechNave wrote.
Whether the exact release date for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is confirmed or not; one thing for sure, Malaysian fans will definitely be meeting this new smartphone this month. With the latest Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, which comes in a larger screen, will the coming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 lose out some of its popularity?
Although the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 does not have much breakthrough in terms of the screen size, but with the evolved S Pen feature, it will definitely be a fierce competitor to the iPhone 6 series.
“With the introduction of the Galaxy Note series, we brought the age-old culture of the pen and notepad into the digital world. The new Galaxy Note 4 introduces the most refined Note experience to-date by combining all the latest technology that users expect from the Galaxy series,” Samsung Electronics chief executive officer and head of IT & Mobile Communication JK Shin said in a statement early of last month.
Unlike Apple, it looks like Samsung does not put much effort in improving the device’s size and design, but more on improving its technology and specs, which is one of the good reason for users to choose a Galaxy Note 4 over iPhone 6 Plus (sorry Apple fans, but Apple took too long to realise that size does matter). The new Galaxy Note 4 is slightly bigger than its previous Galaxy Note 3 which has 5.3 inch screen.
Galaxy Note 4’s S Pen
This old feature is making a comeback with double the sensitivity, and new fountain pen and calligraphy pen options. According to a writer from Stuff who had spend a brief time doodling at the IFA 2014 event in Germany, the feeling for the S Pen is rather “positive”.
“Writing feels natural, and the pressure, speed and even tilt of the device itself all affect the thickness and opacity of the virtual on-screen ink in a totally natural way,” Stuff wrote, adding that the S Pen can also be used to highlight text and select multiple pictures, similar to how you do it on your computer using a mouse.
Brief Comparisons between Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus
Galaxy Note 4 comes with the high contrast of 5.7 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. The display which gives precise color saturation will able to make you feel the vivid color from the screen and boost the viewing experiences. The screen comes in 515 ppi pixel density.
Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, although comes in a bigger size compared to its other siblings, but it is 0.2 inch smaller than the Galaxy Note 4. iPhone 6 Plus is using Retina HD displays, and is the first iPhone that uses HD display, which also emphasize color and high contrasts. However, the display comes at 401 ppi pixel density, a little bit behind compared to the Galaxy Note 4.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 comes in a premium metal frame with fluid curvature and 2.5D glass screen which offer extra protection. The back cover of the device also comes with a soft faux-leather which not only provides comfort but also make it easier to control even with one hand. The device is weight 176 g. Its comes in four colours – charcoal black, frost white, bronze gold and blossom pink.
Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus feature a unibody enclosure of anodized aluminum. It is the thinnest iPhone in history so far with only 7.1mm thick (1.4mm slimmer than Galaxy Note 4). It weight at 172 g and available in three colours – space gray, gold and silver.
Complete with advance camera system, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is able to capture a brighter and clearer image. It comes with two cameras – a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera with a Smart Optical Image Stabilizer, and a 3.7 megapixel front-facing camera which offers a default 90 degree shooting angle and up to 120 degree wide angle.
Also comes with two cameras, iPhone 6 Plus has a 1.2 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 8 megapixel front-facing camera. Looks like Apple has some work to do to improve their iPhone cameras, although it does come with the optical image stabilization technology like the Galaxy Note 4. Its advanced iSight camera comes with a sensor featuring Focus Pixels which could speed up autofocus, which could capture the moment in no time.
