Firemen are often times portrayed in the media as fearless fighters. They are what I would call the blue collar superheroes. These team of firefighters are out there round the clock, day by day saving lives and at the same time, the nature of their job requires for them to be physically fit as well. Hence, they automatically fit the bill of being hard workers and have the biceps to prove it too.

The fact that they look great in their uniform, and are doing such a noble job makes them great candidates for calendar models as well. This is exactly what the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department has been leveraging on for the past few years, as they churn out calendars featuring our local heroes. 2016 is no different, and this time, the shots are more candid, as opposed to past years.

Where 2015 saw the department taking a more portrait-like approach, this year shows the firemen hard at work. Sure, there are the occasional rule-breakers where the firemen and rescue team look into the camera whilst flexing a muscle, but hey, nobody’s complaining.

In fact, these calendars which are released during the month of January are requested for by the public, like hot cakes. They are not for sale and are often times just distributed to the members of the department, but because Malaysians have been waiting to lay their hands on the calendars, they are also distributed out during the department’s public events.

This year’s calendar features weight-lifting, equipment-hoisting, safety-gear-wearing and even wall-scaling, which are what the team goes through on a frequent basis and it was interesting to see that being highlighted. As the ones who are responsible for being all hands on deck during hazardous, life endangering situations, it’s nice that they get to experience what it’s like to be in front of the camera as well.
