I wonder how MyRepublic took the news.

Yesterday, Singtel announced that they’re offering a new add-on plan called DATAX2. Under this new scheme, customers will be able to double their monthly mobile data at a fixed additional cost of S$5.90 per month.

The add-on plan has officially kicked off today. DATAX2 is available at the IT Show 2016, online or at any Singtel Shop and Singtel Exclusive Retailer.

Unfortunately, DATAX2 is inapplicable for Combo 1 users. The add-on plan is only available for new and re-contract postpaid mobile plan customers who are using Combo 2 and over.

Here’s a detailed look:

A rather bold move, considering MyRepublic is also offering an even sweeter deal. If the new internet service provider were to become Singapore’s fourth telco, it’ll give its current customers unlimited data for S$60 per month, and a 2GB plan at S$6 per month. Additional data costs $8 per GB.

Take a look at their plans here:

If it all goes well, MyRepublic users will be able to enjoy these plans in either 2017 or 2018. A peek at the comment thread on their Facebook page showed that they’re working on their data roaming plans.

With unlimited data, there’s no need to rely on SMS and outgoing calls. Suffice to say, MyRepublic’s Unlimited Data plan is a safe bet—and this is coming from a Singtel user who’s been using the service in over a decade.

According to The Straits Times, M1 has also revealed that they will launch two new line-only plans and provide plans that’s packed up to 20GB of monthly data.

One might wonder, Starhub, what’s your next move?
