It was an early birthday party for Zalora Singapore (SG) and customers were invited to be part of it. To celebrate its second year in the running, the online shopping site opened its first weekend pop-up store at Tiong Bahru last weekend.
Covering about 1,100 sg ft, the store carried three brands ranging from London- based River Island, Something Borrowed and in-house brand EZRA. Only the women’s outfit and accessories were displayed for the three-day event which opened from 10am to 10pm daily.
Vulcan Post was invited and went down to visit the pop-up store by Zalora SG.
A spokeswoman for the company said that the pop-up store’s raison d’etre was to allow the team to interact with customers first-hand. Designers and label buyers would prowl the floor, ready to assist and answer queries from visitors, providing a value-added customer service experience to them.
Ms Penny Yip, designer and head of the footwear department for EZRA, quipped that the event would make feedback by customers “more accessible”. At the same time, designers might also advise shoppers if the product suited them perfectly.
Despite the store’s physical presence, Zalora SG still stuck to its roots of online retailing. Four iPads were available for customers to browse through the company’s entire catalogue (which consists of over 400 brands). Patrons who made an online purchase in the shop were entitled to a 10% off the final bill. Moreover, those who spent above S$100 were given an exclusive canvas tote bag worth S$29.90.
Although exact visitor numbers to the event is not available, a Zalora SG spokeswoman did mention in an earlier interview that it expects about 100 shoppers to attend the event on a daily basis, with a possible spike over the weekends. To ensure a comfy ambience amidst the buzz among shopaholics, tables, seats, organic juices and even wine were provided.
The Zalora SG weekend pop-store was located at Intercontinental, 61 Seng Poh Lane, #01-05 (Tiong Bahru). The e-retailer’s birthday falls on March 10.
