In an age where technological advances are a norm, it’s no surprise that innovators are taking the old and transforming them into the new. Through the more obvious technological advances such as the evolution of the mobile phone, it is clear to see that the way forward is not to build something new, but to make existing products even better.

The theme of the future seems to be along the lines of sleek, minimalist and sophisticated; and designers have really taken that into account, especially when designing these amazing futuristic products – all of which can be found on Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.

The Potted Plant: LYFE

No strings attached, this floating plant would make anyone stop and stare when they enter your room.

For a touch of whimsicality and sophistication, this plant blows any regular plant out of the water. Its zero gravity growing system consists of a planter that hovers over an oak base via magnetic levitation.

Designed to gently rotate during suspension, LYFE nourishes the plant as airborne nutrients are absorbed by the plants leaves, rather than the conventional root system. Through Maglev technology, it shows that magnetic fields accelerates the ripening of certain fruits, which enhances the plant’s metabolism.

Regular plants need constant care, such as daily watering and sometimes mineral fertilisers to keep them healthy and alive – plus where there is soil, there is the possibility of bugs, so LYFE is definitely the new way to display your plants Magneto-style.

The Switch: Knocki

With homes becoming more advanced, you’d think controlling all of its internal functions would be simpler, but with endless switches and buttons, it’s hard to keep track of them all. However, with this device, all can be done with something as simple as a knock.

Knocki is a small wireless device that instantly transforms ordinary surfaces (walls, tables, doors, furniture, counter-tops, and more) into powerful yet easy to access remotes for your favourite devices and software.

When you mount Knocki underneath or on a particular piece of furniture or wall, you can program the entire surface to perform your favourite functions. Why reach for a phone, a remote, or a switch to perform your favourite functions when there’s another control interface that’s always within reach?

The Lamp: ROOME

Ever forget to turn off the lights when you leave the house? Or do you remember fumbling your way in the dark just to turn it on when you wake up for a short bathroom break?

Roome is a lamp designed purely for convenience, as it uses motion-sensor technology and turns itself on or off depending on whether or not it’s needed.

Through this motion-sensor technology, the lamp will turn itself on when you enter a room, then turn itself off when it no longer detects any movement in the room. Now sleeping after you’ve read a book will save you the energy (yours and your electricity’s) as it turns off when it detects you sleeping.

You can wave your hand over the lamp to either turn it on or off or dim or brighten the lights, all of this without even touching the lamp (it also has two USB ports at the base to charge your phone).

The Wallet: Walli

The possible answer to all our prayers – especially for those who tend to be a bit more forgetful.

Walli, the worlds first “smart wallet” does what every wallet owner wishes their wallet could do: alert them when they’ve accidentally left it behind and direct them to its whereabouts.

Could stolen or dropped wallets now become a thing of the past?

Through Bluetooth, Walli connects to your smartphone to send instant notifications and continuously monitor your wallet activity. The patent-pending SecurePockets technology allows Walli to monitor the card slot you use the most, and sends a signal to your phone when your credit card/identification card is missing for too long.

There’s more – if you can’t find your phone, do simple double tap gesture on your wallet, and it will set off an alarm on your phone even if it’s on silent mode. This only works if the phone is in range (<100ft) though.

Walli is made of genuine leather, dust-proof and does not require charging. It runs on an easily replaced single coin cell battery which can last up to 6 months.
