Here we are again at the tail-end of another year.
2017 has been a whirlwind year of awesome new tech, apps, and content and in the App Store and iTunes, Singaporeans have definitely been busy downloading a whole host of stuff for their new devices.
2017 Best Of App Store Year In Review
With the launch of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, Apple finally brought the augmented reality (AR) experience into iOS, and millions worldwide thanks to the A11 Bionic chip powering these new devices.
So it is no surprise that in the App Store, many have taken an interest AR and it shows in the increased number of apps taking advantage of this technology.
Titles like My Hungry Caterpillar brought classic children’s book characters to life, while AR Dragon brought the much-loved virtual pet simulator genre into the real world (sort of).
On the wellness front, this year saw a surge in apps focusing on mental health, mindfulness, and stress reduction.
Colouring book apps such as Bloom and Lake are popular with people looking to de-stress, while meditation app, Zen Studio, joins the growing list.
Singaporeans Love Ed Sheeren And Action Movies
In the Apple Music front, Ed Sheeren fever has definitely hit Singapore throughout the year as he tops the charts for both Album of the Year with ÷(Divide) and top song with Shape of You.
Second favourite, Bruno Mars is close behind in the charts.
K-Pop continues to be a prominent force in all the top charts despite trailing behind Ed Sheeren, and this can be seen with boyband BIGBANG, as well as frontman G Dragon, taking prime positions within the Top 10.

The iTunes Top 2017 Movies charts also gives us a glimpse into what kind of movies Singaporeans have been gushing over this past year.
Family-friendly entrants Moana and Sing are the top two movies this year.

It’s all about consuming and creating content for users of the iPad. Youtube remains the top free choice of app for anyone looking for content to consume, while Procreate is still the go-to app for anyone looking to create their own artistic masterpiece on the iPad, especially if you also own an Apple Pencil.
For games, it’s everyone favourite plumber, as Super Mario Run is the top choice for free games while the top paid game sees Minecraft taking the crown once more.
