Today, mobile classifieds app Carousell and personal finance website MoneySmart announced a new collaboration, which looks to make personal finance more accessible to Singaporeans.
The partnership will see MoneySmart-recommended financial products on the Carousell marketplace in a new Finance category.
This also marks the first time that a category is created exclusive for new products, given that Carousell is mostly known for its preloved listings.
The new Finance category will exclusively feature MoneySmart listings, and users will be able to browse for financial products, such as credit cards, personal loans, travel insurance and even property loans on the platform.
Currently, users are only able to browse credit card listings, but the category will subsequently be expanded to include recommendations for travel insurance and savings accounts within the year.
Said Vinod Nair, CEO of MoneySmart, “Our expertise in the personal finance space allows us to help users make sense of complex personal finance information, so they can make confident decisions around personal finance products without leaving Carousell’s platform.”
Added Quek Siu Rui, co-founder and CEO of Carousell, “We want to be a marketplace where Singaporeans can find everything they need on our app – from cars, property, jobs and services to trusted financial products.”
With one in four people in Singapore reportedly using Carousell on a regular basis, and more than half of its user base aged 25 and above, many are also increasingly turning to the platform for big-ticket items like furniture, cars, and even property.
Last year, Carousell launched a car marketplace Carousell Motors, which aimed to make “car buying and selling easier [and] help aspiring car owners make the best decision possible by providing reliable, transparent and easily accessible information on used cars in Singapore”.
This came swiftly after the acquisition of car classifieds platform Caarly in late 2016.
