Razer has been making gaming peripherals for literally more than a decade now, so it’s a little surprising that it took them this long to get into the gaming monitor market.

But better late than never, we suppose. At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the Singaporean brand unveiled an “early-design-phase” model of the new Razer Raptor, and we’re liking what we see so far.

Based on its specs sheet, the Razer Raptor seems to include everything you’d want in a modern gaming monitor — a 27-inch IPS screen with 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution puts it up there with the best of them, and HDR support further improves on its already-impressive display capabilities.

For silky smooth gaming the monitor also has a 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response rate, and is compatible with AMD’s Freesync technology as well (though your mileage for the last one might vary depending on what GPU you’re using).

Razer doesn’t seem to be skimping on the construction side of things either. The minimalist, matte black design includes a forged aluminium base, and at a hefty 11.5kg its sure to feel like a solid piece of equipment.

There are some design choices made in the name of convenience as well. The monitor, for example, can be tilted up to 90 degrees for easier access to ports, and special Razer green-coloured cables at the back keep things neat and aesthetically consistent at the same time.

And of course, what would a Razer product be without some RGB? A Razer Chroma-powered LED strip runs across the monitor’s base, allowing you to finally realise your dreams of having your entire desktop setup light up in unison.

So when can you get your hands on one? Well, the Razer Raptor is slated for a release in the U.S and Canada “later this year’, with a retail price of $699.99 (S$949, RM2,874).

We’ll keep you updated on when this is becomes available to us, because we’re definitely going to want to get our hands on this too.
