1.4 million lower-income Singaporeans are due to receive a GST Voucher of up to $300, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat announced at today’s Budget 2019 speech.
This is part of the $1.1 Billion Bicentennial Bonus, one of two initiatives launched to commemorate Singapore’s Bicentennial and “foster the spirit of giving back”.
the second initiative is a $200 million Bicentennial Community Fund, that will match donations made to Institutions of a Public Character (IPC) dollar-for-dollar.
Lower-income workers who received payments under the Workfare Income Supplement (WIC) scheme will also receive a Workfare Bicentennial Bonus, which constitutes an additional 10 percent of their WIS payment for work done in 2018 with a minimum payment of $100.
“With this bonus, I hope all Singaporeans, young and old, will join us to commemorate this significant moment in Singapore’s history,” said Mr Heng.
