Have you ever felt like you’re overpaying for your mobile phone bills?

Thing is, most of us are ‘trapped’ by lock-in contracts offered by the major telcos in Singapore, so there is no way for us to recontract for cheaper — unless you’re willing to pay a hefty early termination fee.
But with the entry of new players like MyRepublic, Circles.Life, Zero ad Zero.1, an array of no-contract smartphone plans at attractive rates are now available.

And There’s One Telco That Offers Free Unlimited Data
Singaporeans love anything free, so here’s good news for you: TPG Telecom has relaunched their offer of FREE one-year mobile service.
It’s a SIM-only plan, which includes unlimited data, unlimited mobile-to-mobile calls, 20 local SMS, and 20 minutes of outgoing calls to local fixed lines per month.
Do note that a 4G VoLTE compatible device is required for making and receiving calls and data speeds will be capped at 2GB/day.
Examples of some VoLTE capable supported handsets include Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei Mate 20 series, Honor 10 Lite, Honor 8x, Samsung S9 and 9+. “More popular handsets” are expected to be supported in the near future.
TPG did not specify when this trial will be withdrawn, so if you want to enjoy free mobile services for a year, you can register your interest with TPG here.
Otherwise, if you don’t care about speeds and just want to go for the cheapest plan with unlimited data, then Zero1’s 1GB To Unlimited Data will be the perfect choice for you.
Be warned though — when the data speed throttles down after 1GB of 4G speeds is used up, you might not be able to enjoy data-intensive activities like streaming videos or real-time mobile gaming.
If speed is an important criteria to you, then Circles.Life is your best bet at $38/month for unlimited data. Data speeds will only be throttled after 40GB usage, which is honestly hard to hit.
At the end of the day, we are purely comparing the plans based on the mobile data offerings.
When settling for a mobile plan, be sure to take note of other offerings like the talktime, calls, caller ID and other value-added services. Taking these into consideration will help you find a plan that best fits your needs.
