In January, Razer and Tesla fans rejoiced when the head honchos of both firms made contact on Twitter, establishing a bromance (that really should have happened a long time ago) that could see the latter powering the former’s Southeast Asian headquarters in Singapore.

While many rejoiced about the sheer potential (Tesla cars with Razer Chroma, anyone?) of what could be dubbed the ‘crossover of the year’, the comments section was also flooded with calls for the Razer Toaster.

Longtime followers of Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan’s social media updates would be more than familiar with the Razer Toaster, but for those not in the know, it can be extremely puzzling why fans of a company that creates gaming peripherals have this seeming obsession with a household item.

As a tl;dr, the prospect of a Razer-created toaster came about 6 years ago when a fan jokingly asked about a Razer Toaster, to which Tan replied that they already made one.

This was noticed by Razer fan Mark Withers, who then started commenting “on every single status of Min-Liang Tan’s. Every night, every morning and every. Single. Status.”

He also created Facebook page “Give us the Razer Toaster” to document its progress.

Tan eventually replied, telling Withers that if he got a million likes on the page, he’ll “make [him] a f***in’ Razer toaster”.

Unbeknownst to Tan, that promise launched a 5-year long mission by Razer fans to see the toaster come to fruition.

Relentless in their quest, fans didn’t waste any opportunity to reference the Razer Toaster in announcement posts about actual Razer products, and some even got creative with photoshop to pressure the CEO into making the Razer Toaster a reality.

Some even took matters into their own hands, like this guy:

On April Fools’ in 2016, the Razer team added fuel to the flames with the announcement of Project BreadWinner – exactly what you’d imagine it to be.

In spite of all the teasing, Tan still maintained a clear stance in his replies – that the Razer Toaster was not happening.

At least, not anytime soon.

So…Razer Toaster IS Happening

After almost 6 long years, Tan has finally given in.

“Alright – I didn’t think these guys were going to make it – but they did,” he started in a Facebook post.

It was to hit 1M likes and with each Razer Toaster tattoo being equivalent to 100K likes each….and they now have 12 Razer Toaster tattoos.

Yes, tattoos.

Tan shared that he has since liked the page, and is going to “put together [a] team of designers and engineers”.

It will take a few years – but I’ll be sure to share the progress – and make it a community affair.

And there you have it.

Fans will need to wait a little longer before they can get the three-headed snake logo imprinted on their bread, but I guess it’s now safe to say that the idea is officially baking in the oven.
