For many people who use dating apps, it can get tiring to repeatedly go through the process of swiping, matching, and talking to new people.

Especially when all that effort doesn’t always guarantee landing a date in person.

A Singapore company, Maybe, proposes a different solution—to ‘grab a date’ for a fee.

The idea is reminiscent of other ‘rent-a-friend’ services available in Singapore, such as Pally which lets you hire someone as a companion or professional guide to do activities with you.

Similarly, Maybe’s website explains that you can use their service to “meet someone new to do fun activities with, or simply have a meal together to talk about all there is under the sun”.

Pay A Date To Go Out With You

Since you’re paying a price for companionship, Maybe promises a “guaranteed date”.

At the moment, their ‘members’ available for hire on the platform are currently made up of 4 men and 23 women.

Users can find out some information about the dates on Maybe, like their age range, height, whether they drink or not, and the days and times they’re available.

Some also share in detail what kind of activities they’ll be up for. For example, Dickson, one of Maybe’s members, writes:

Up for anything. Be your tour guide? Need someone to have casual drinks or coffee? Need a KTV buddy? Maybe to the zoo? Movies? Or walk your dog with you? Book me!

Maybe’s members state their own individual prices, which seem to range from about $60 to $200 for a 2-hour date, and can increase with additional hours.

Besides paying for your date’s time to hang out however, users also have to be prepared to bear all costs during the meet-up, and pay an additional $30 for their transport if the date ends after 11pm.

But in case users mistake the intention of the dates, Maybe states clearly in their FAQs that “strictly no forms of physical contact” are allowed, save for a friendly handshake.

Another rule they must observe is they can only arrange dates in public places.

However, there aren’t as many concrete rules in place that address safety for users who book dates with Maybe’s members.

According to their Terms and Conditions, users will only be fully refunded for cancellation if they cancel at least 3 hours before the agreed date, or refunded for 50% of the cost if they cancel less than 3 hours in advance.

If your date turns out to be a different person from their profile, Maybe says they will “conduct a check on both parties to ensure fairness and resolve the dispute”.

Would you give Maybe a try?
