Singapore livestreaming company, BeLive, recently announced the launch of its live video services arm and already has Japanese e-commerce giant, Rakuten, and South Korea’s business conglomerate, Samsung, among others, as partners.

Called BeLive Technology, it has powered Rakuten’s live video and live shopping platform, Rakuten Live, when it launched in Japan in early May.

BeLive Technology’s Live Trivia feature was also adapted to help Samsung train its sales representatives for the Galaxy S10 launch by having participants answer questions related to the product.

Co-founder and CEO of BeLive, Kenneth Tan said, “Together with our partners, we aim to shift the way people consume, interact, and shop with live video around the world.”

In the next three years, livestreaming will make up almost 20% of all internet video traffic.

Livestreaming has become an alternative source of income for content creators and influencers, with some earning as much as $1,900 a month.

Last year, BeLive introduced its live shopping feature on its app and helped sell out some beauty products in just two minutes.

When asked about the value BeLive Technology can bring to partners, Kenneth answered that it was mostly the economic value that attracted them to come onboard.

“They could test their ideas in the market at a lower cost and at a much quicker pace if they adopted our technology.”

“BeLive also has had the experience of running a consumer platform for the past two years and are not a pure SaaS (software as a service) play,” he added.

“Our experience with operating BeLive increased our partners’ confidence in us.”

Besides using their Live Trivia technology for corporate training, as seen in Samsung’s case, Kenneth noted that it can be used in education or be included in interview processes.

“Especially for education, we see it as a direct supplement to e-learning as Trivia has proven to have outstanding engagement and question-completion rates.”

BeLive, who was once touted as a competitor to YY-backed BIGO, raised a US$1.5 million seed round in 2017, and now has half a million users in Singapore and is “growing steadily in Vietnam”.

Mediacorp Chief Corporate Development Officer, Angeline Poh wished the team success, adding, “BeLive has grown significantly since joining the Mediapreneur programme, launching their service and now reaching 1 million users.”

Kenneth revealed that they have crossed the seven-figure mark this year and looks forward to growing in the coming years.

He added, “We will be investing heavily into improving our offerings, starting with more easily implementable SDKs (Software Development Kits) for Trivia and Shopping, for example.”

“The BeLive app will also continue to operate in Singapore and Vietnam, our strongest markets so far.”
