According to a report on The New Paper, Times Bookstores will be closing its Centrepoint outlet on 23 Sept.
This comes after news that Malaysian bookstore chain MPH was closing the shutters of its last 2 outlets in Singapore, located at Raffles City and Parkway Parade.
There were plans to relocate to a single outlet, and reasons cited for the closures were “unsustainable” high rental costs and “intense competition” from major ecommerce players.
In April, Japanese bookstore chain Books Kinokuniya also closed its Liang Court outlet, while homegrown chain Popular closed its Thomson Plaza outlet in June.
A spokesman for Times Bookstores told The New Paper, however, that the closure of their Centrepoint outlet is “part of Times Bookstores’ ongoing renewal of store locations from time to time”.
After the closure, book lovers will still be able to shop at Times bookstores at Paragon, Plaza Singapura, Jelita, Marina Square, Tampines 1, and Waterway Point.
Times also has an ecommerce site, GoGuru.com.sg.
For those looking to visit Times Centerpoint for one last time, the outlet is also having a moving out sale with 50% discounts for members and 30% discounts for non-members until its last day.
