lyf Funan Singapore, the largest coliving property in Southeast Asia, is now in operations.
Targeted at millennials, it is also the world’s first property under Ascott’s new ‘lyf’ coliving brand.
The Ascott is CapitaLand’s wholly owned lodging business unit.
lyf Funan is 121,000 sq ft in gross floor area, has nine storeys, 412 rooms in 279 apartments, and easy access, via a sheltered underground walkway, to City Hall MRT station.
The new coliving space caters to both short and long stays, making it ideal for leisure and business travellers, expatriates, global assignees, and digital nomads.
It touts “instagrammable… social zones” that consist of coworking spaces and an area for hackathons, innovation talks, music jamming sessions, cooking sessions, and workshops.
There will be weekly social programmes for residents to build connections and exchange ideas, foster co-creation, and take part in TED talks or craft workshops.
Guests can prepare meals and take cooking classes at its “social kitchen”, work out at its “social gymnasium” that’s fitted with a human-sized hamster wheel, and play in the giant ball pit and giant-sized Connect Four set.
They can also do their laundry at the communal laundromat.
lyf Funan Singapore will be managed by millennial “lyf Guards”, who are all-round community managers, city and food guides, bar keepers, event organisers, and problem-solvers.
Guests can book, make payment, and access the property through the lyf app, which also allows them to contact lyf Guards.
On top of that, guests will get to enjoy discounts at various shops at Funan by showing their mobile key.

“The booming millennial segment, which is the fastest growing travel demographic, already forms a quarter of Ascott’s customer base and is expected to grow,” she added.
“Our lyf properties are specially designed to cater to millennials’ craving for social connections, collaboration and cocreation.”
She also revealed that seven more lyf properties will be opened in Bangkok, Fukuoka, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Cebu and Shanghai by 2022.
lyf Farrer Park Singapore will open in 2020 and lyf one-north Singapore will open in 2021.
Besides the countries where lyf is already present, they are also looking to introduce lyf via investment, management contracts or leases to cities in Australia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Netherlands, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
Types Of Accommodation
lyf Funan Singapore offers five interchangeable apartment types, with room rates starting from $150++:
One of a Kind: An 18 sqm studio unite with an ensuite bathroom for individuals and couples.
Two of a Kind: A 43 sqm, two-room apartment that comes with a kitchenette.
lyf Style: An 18 sqm gaming-themed studio unit equipped with a PlayStation console, ensuite bathroom and a pull-down sofa bed.
Up & Down: An 18 sqm studio unit that comes with bunk beds.
All Together: A range of 41 sqm to 105 sqm business suites that are ideal for groups of up to nine, featuring two to six rooms with a shared kitchen, a Samsung Flip interactive smart screen, and a large table that doubles up as a workspace and dining area.
