I’ve had smartwatches for a few years now, and my first one was the Pebble, which I still have in my drawer at home.

Smartwatches have evolved over the years and nowadays, they can do so much more than just tell you the time.

Huawei’s Watch GT 2 is one of the brand’s latest offerings that isn’t a phone. It comes with tons of features that could blow other smartwatches out of the water.

Since I managed to get my hands on it, here’s a little sneak peek of what you can expect from the gadget.

1. Features To Keep Yourself In Check

After a thorough setup on the watch, you can immediately set it to monitor a wide array of activities such as sleep, heart rate, stress, steps, exercises and air pressure.

While these are not exactly new, not every smartwatch has the capability to track this wide assortment of activities.

2. Guided Exercise Haven

On the watch, you can toggle a voiced and guided exercise mode to lead you through your whole routine.

Currently, there are 13 running modes on the watch and it would be safe to assume they’ll be adding more as time goes on.

These runs are nothing new for a seasoned veteran, but it would be a massive boost for newbies trying to lose weight (like me).

3. Long-Lasting Battery

According to Huawei, the watch will be able to last up to two weeks, but knowing how a battery works, it all depends on how you use it.

If you are constantly running and listening to music on the watch, it will no doubt drain easier compared to someone that’s just using it to track their daily sleep and steps.

You can even toggle the always-on feature on the watch (which drains the battery faster).

4. Music On The Go

Speaking of music, the watch is equipped with a 4GB internal storage. This means you’ll be able to store music on the watch.

Huawei has mentioned that the watch supports mp3 and LC-AAC formats. The disadvantage to that, I think, is the lack of on-the-go Spotify.

If I could install the Spotify app onto the watch and play my favourite offline playlist, I would have a winner on my hands.

5. Style It Yourself

Much like other smartwatches of the current generation, you can hot-swap the bands even when you are on the go.

Let’s say you are rushing to a black-tie event right after your gym session. You can take off the sports band and change it to something more elegant to fit the occasion. However, you will have to purchase separate bands if you wish to do so.

6. Built-in Loudspeakers

The 46mm version of the watch has a built-in speaker that allows you to play music on your wrist while you are having your jog.

But, if you wish to not be a public nuisance, you can easily pair a Bluetooth headset to the watch and play music in the confines of your ear.

7. Resistant To Your Sweat, Tears And Rain

The watch is also 5 ATM rated and that means it can be in waters as deep as 50 metres for 10 minutes. You can easily take the watch for a swim and have no worries about it malfunctioning.

From my brief time with the watch, I am already quite impressed with what it offers. It does everything that a smartwatch needs to do with elegance. It’s hard to fault what Huawei is trying to build up with the Watch GT 2.

I personally think this watch will suit people who are living a moderately active lifestyle better. Its tracking features, while abundant, are not really tailored for those who live more intense, outdoor lifestyles.
