Circles.Life announced today that it has launched a global campaign called ‘Telco Freedom Fund Campaign’ to bail people out of their mobile contracts.

It has created a crowdfunding page via GoGetFunding to raise S$1 million, and will kick off the campaign with a S$50,000 donation tomorrow.

Anyone can help donate to the cause. All donations will be in Singapore dollars, and the amount received will be auto-deducted by 6.9% platform fee and $0.30 handling fee for every donation.

The campaign currently has 13 backers, with S$17,516 raised so far.

According to Circles.Life, the funding will be used to pay termination fees of global consumers so they can break free from their telcos.

Circles.Life sees mobile contracts as an “outdated terrible practice” because it binds people with fine prints in the disguise of phone subsidies and better deals.

They added that giant telcos make people feel powerless with an endless cycle of hidden charges, terms and conditions, bill shocks and horrible customer service.

The Singapore-based virtual telco sees this as a “serious problem” and hopes this campaign can help get subscribers out of contracts and give them the telco freedom they deserve.

“Circles.Life was born with a mission to give power back to the customers and we’re proud to pioneer the no-contract plans in Singapore and Taiwan. However, many countries still practice mobile contracts and it’s unfavourable to the customers,” said Delbert Ty, Circles.Life’s head of marketing.

“We want to fundamentally change how customers around the world sign up and commit to a mobile plan, and give the power back to them.”

How To Get Circles.Life To Pay Your Termination Fees?

Global consumers who want to receive the termination fee funding must first share the Circles.Life video via Facebook and Twitter.

When sharing, they have to share their bad telco experiences, explaining why they want to liberate themselves from contracts using the following template:

“@CurrentTelco, [explain why do you want to leave them]. Thanks Circles.Life for fighting for our #TelcoFreedom @circleslifesg

The post must be set to public and receive a total of 300 likes/reshares/retweets (combined).

Thereafter, they must fill out the submission form here to formally apply for the termination fee funding. The fund will be given on a first-come, first-served basis and individuals will be contacted if they successfully secure a slot.

Consumers must take note to submit payment proof of the required termination amount and have a valid PayPal account so that Circles.Life can transfer the amount accordingly.

This campaign is open to everyone in Singapore and worldwide, with no obligations to switch to Circles.Life after termination.

This is not the first time that Circles.Life has done such a bold move. Last September, Circles.Life Taiwan gave away S$50,000 to bail close to 50 people out of their contracts.
