Gojek, with its insurance partner Gigacover, announced today (21 Feb) a complimentary extension of their earnings protection insurance for driver-partners, to cover Covid-19 related claims.
Gojek has partnered Gigacover in Singapore since last year, offering drivers an earnings protection coverage of $80 per day during medical and hospitalisation leave.
This has been available to driver-partners at a subsidised rate starting from S$22.40 per month, or as free coverage for Gold and Platinum tier drivers.
Now, Gojek driver-partners who have purchased the earnings protection plan will also be entitled to Covid-19 related benefits at no additional cost.
If they have travelled to China before 31 Jan 2020, and are placed on Stay Home Notice (SHN) or Leave of Absence (LOA) upon their return to Singapore on or after 31 Jan, they can claim up to S$560.
They will also receive up to S$400 if they are infected, and up to S$6,500 if they are hospitalised due to the coronavirus.
These extensions are added on top of Gojek’s previous support measures, including a coverage of up to S$1,000 for drivers who get placed on quarantined for 14 days or longer.
Quarantined driver-partners on GoFleet (their vehicle rental programme) will also have their vehicle rental waived on top of a one-off S$100 allowance.
In a press release, Gigacover said what they’re offering is believed to be “the most extensive Covid-19 cover provided to freelancers in Singapore”.
Said Gojek Singapore General Manager, Lien Choong Luen, “When we take care of our driver-partners, we know they will in turn deliver the best experience to our riders.”
“Gigacover has been a great insurance partner, and they have really stepped up during this critical period of the Covid-19 outbreak to safeguard our driver-partners’ health and well-being.”
