Huawei Pay launches in Singapore
In this article

Huawei users in Singapore can now make contactless payments through Huawei Pay on their smartphones.

The Chinese tech company announced today (3 April) the roll-out of their mobile payment tool in an exclusive partnership with UnionPay, a day ahead of the P40 series’ arrival in Singapore.

Users can enable Huawei Pay by adding their bank cards to the Huawei Wallet app, which will come preloaded in Huawei’s latest P40 smartphones. For older Huawei and Honor models, the app can be downloaded from Huawei’s AppGallery.

With this, they will be able to simply tap their smartphone on Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals to pay in stores.

Payment security is also ensured as users authenticate their identity through either facial or fingerprint recognition.

For now, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Singapore (ICBC Singapore) is the first bank to support Huawei Pay, and is offering special benefits for cardholders during the launch.

From 1 April to 30 September, ICBC UnionPay credit card users can earn up to $20 cashback from their Huawei Pay payments.

Users who register their ICBC UnionPay credit cards to Huawei Pay will also receive 10 Huawei Points as a welcome gift, which can be used to offset purchases on Huawei’s AppGallery, Themes, Video and Mobile Cloud.

When asked about their plans to include more banks in Huawei Pay in the future, Huawei responded that it intends to collaborate with more banking and financial institutions.

Considering they have worked with banks like DBS, UOB and OCBC to get their mobile banking apps on the AppGallery, it wouldn’t be a stretch to guess that joining Huawei Pay could be in discussion as well.
