National Development Minister Lawrence Wong, who also co-chairs the multi-taskforce ministry, announced today (April 21) that the government will be tightening the list of essential services that will remain open during the ‘circuit breaker’ period.

It will be reducing the number of essential workers from 20 per cent to 15 per cent across all sectors, especially for consumer-facing businesses.

He added that those working in essential services are at high risk of contracting the virus.

According to Wong, many of the local infected cases were either those working in essential services, or had family members who are working in essential services.

This might result in a “degradation” of certain services, including F&B.

The full list of such businesses and services affected will be published by the Ministry of Trade and Industry “very soon”, he added.
