If you’ve been looking for a new phone in the past 2 years, you might have heard of an up-and-coming brand by the name realme.
Since its inception, realme has launched 20 devices within two years and the young brand has entered over 61 markets worldwide. Locally, realme Malaysia is the #2 smartphone brand and the company saw a 50% quarter-on-quarter growth this year.
And according to a Counterpoint research, they saw a growth of 132% in Q3 of 2020 due to the vast product portfolio. In fact they’re also one of the biggest smartphone brands in India too.
With such a variety of offerings, it’s not hard to find one that suits consumer budgets and needs.
realme’s Gunning To Be The Real Deal For Affordable Mobile Phones
For example, the new realme narzo 20 Pro is just priced at RM1,199, and comes equipped with a 90Hz, 6.5-inch FullHD+ Fullscreen display with a 4,500mAh battery that has a 65W SuperDart Charge.
The camera on the phone is no slouch either, it sports a 48-megapixel AI rear quad camera setup and a 16-megapixel in-display selfie cam.
Moving Forward Even During A Pandemic
In the latest report by Counterpoint, realme is now the fastest growing brand to reach the 50 million sales globally, ahead of big brands such as Samsung, Apple and Huawei. They took just 9 quarters to achieve this as well.
2020 proved to be a historic year for the company. The brand shipped over 14.8 million smartphones across all the market in Q3 of 2020, recording it as the best quarterly shipment for the company.
Following the footsteps of other tech brands, they’ve wisely diversified their offerings into the AI of Things (AIoT) products such as realme smart TVs, Sonic Electric toothbrushes, wireless earbuds, smartwatches and smart scales.
Consistency In Breaking Records
“According to the recent 2020 e-Conomy report launched by Google, Bain and Temasek, more than 1 in 3 digital service users are new because of the pandemic. And we expect Malaysia’s internet economy to grow 3X to reach $30B in 2025.
Mobile connectivity will serve an important role to our economic trajectory, and I am pleased to see realme Malaysia continuing to be an important enabler in this ecosystem by launching delightful products on their YouTube channel.
As recently as September and October, realme phones were one of the top 10 trending Google searches in Malaysia in those months. Thank you realme Malaysia and congratulations on an amazing milestone to be proud of.”
Marc Woo, Managing Director of Google Malaysia
This is a big achievement, seeing that due to the pandemic, a lot of income groups are tightening their belts. They are more cautious in their spending. Affordability has become a key factor in consumer choices, and so realme serves that audience’s needs.
This year, they’re proving to be the brand to beat when it comes to sales again.
Sherry Tan, the Chief Business Officer of Lazada Malaysia said: “It has been a pleasure to witness how realme has further widened its digital presence in Lazada Malaysia and become one of the fastest-growing LazMall brands this year in the Mobile & Tablets category. We look forward to continue to achieve new milestones together!”
They also made a name for themselves on Shopee during this year’s 11.11 sales.
“We are honoured to be realme’s trusted e-commerce partner of choice. From smartphones to wearables, as well as health products and lifestyle offerings, realme’s wide range of products are loved by many Malaysians who shop on Shopee.
This makes realme one of the best-selling mobile and gadget brands on the platform. Shopee congratulates realme on this new milestone that they have unlocked, and we look forward to exciting times ahead.”
Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director, Shopee
In an already saturated market filled with tech gadgets, consumers are spoilt for choice.
