In 2020 and even now in 2021, many travel plans were put to a halt. With flights grounded for a majority of the time and travel being limited, former frequent flyers would be missing on another enjoyable part of travelling: airport shopping.
To help replicate an experience many are missing, Malaysia Airports launched shopMYairports back in September 2020 to provide the retail shops with a new way to connect with shoppers, allowing customers to airport shop without a boarding pass and from the comfort of their home.
Since its inception, the platform saw an increase in average monthly sales by more than 50% and the site recorded over 1.5 million website views from shoppers across Malaysia.
Building up the right audience
shopMYairports is meant to be more than just an extension of the brick-and-mortar stores in the airport. It is not a run-of-the-mill e-commerce platform too.
It boasts duty paid goodies that are exclusive to the platform and they can potentially be cheaper than other online platforms.
Combined with occasional cybersales on the platform, you can potentially get exclusive and branded products that are cheaper than other online sites. On top of that, you can get your hands on travel-exclusive items that can only be purchased in airports, and have shopMYairports deliver them right to your doorstep.
The prices of their products are quite competitive to other sites too. For example, you can buy the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay E8 Sport Truly Wireless Bluetooth earbuds on shopMYairports for just RM1,599, while other official stores price the headphones above that.
For shoppers on the hunt for bargains, shopMYairports launched several cybersales on 10.10, 11.11 and 12.12. Their Boxing Day (December 26) sale garnered 58x more sales value on that day compared to their daily average sales.
With the experience in managing rush day sales, the platform is now more well-prepared for better promotions in 2021, so you can get authentic, genuine, travel-exclusive and duty paid goodies at a cheaper price.
The shopMYaiports site was recently upgraded too, and it is easier to shop using your mobile devices now.
More than just airport shopping
Shoppers can also look forward to more deals and offerings on shopMYairports, as several exciting initiatives are on the horizon for the year.
More recently, the platform added local merchants into their product mix via the ‘HIMPUN Online’ initiative, giving shoppers a chance to buy unique, locally made products at bargain prices, and some of them are exclusive to the platform too.
HIMPUN was originally launched physically by Malaysia Airports back in 2018 as an event to promote home-grown sellers at the airport. But now, the initiative is revived, enabling shoppers to #kitajagakita whenever.
They’ve already onboarded several brands including Hatta Dolmat, who will be releasing a line-up of curated clothing and accessories exclusively for shopMYairports. Other brands such as Batik Boutique, Bingka.KL and Tanamera can also be found on the platform.
shopMYairports is working hard behind the scenes to onboard more local sellers onto the platform too.
Aside from adding more local merchants onto the platform, shopMYairports will also be rewarding shoppers. Those looking to get Raya-ready should browse shopMYairports extensive line-up of cosmetics, fashion and accessories which are available at discounted prices.
They’re running a Raya promotion until May 25. By spending on the platform, you’re in the running to win weekly shopping vouchers of up to RM500.
These are just some of the many initiatives and monthly promotions shoppers can look forward to on shopMYairports. The platform currently houses over 300 brands for you to shop from with more exclusive products added to the mix in the future.
With these additions, shoppers can expect more local flavours, discounts and more on the platform, for which you can shop on your laptop or by just using your phone.
