Heavy non-stop rainfall on December 17-18 saw parts of Malaysia experiencing what experts deem the Tropical Depression 29W. It’s unlike the regular end-year monsoon, as the recent case is a weaker typhoon in the form of a tropical cyclone.

This has resulted in detrimental floods in Selangor, KL, Pahang, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Perak, and Melaka.

There have been at least 4 confirmed deaths, with 3 in Shah Alam and the other in Kuantan. On top of that, 10 people in Pahang have been reported missing.

To that end, we’ve compiled a non-exhaustive list of organisations where you can donate or lend a hand if you have the means to. To learn more about each one, you can click on their names in the headings.

For Volunteers And Monetary Aid

1. Malaysian Red Crescent Society

The goal: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society is raising funds to help the affected flood victims around Selangor, including those in Klang, Shah Alam, Hulu Langat.

The organisers: Malaysian Red Crescent Society is a non-profit organisation dedicated to humanitarian acts and services.

2. Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia

The goal: To help the flood victims in Shah Alam and Klang, Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia is looking for monetary donations.

They are also looking for water jets to be borrowed for post-flood cleanups around Shah Alam, Klang and Seremban.

The organisers: Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia aims to involve students actively and maturely in discussing national issues of students.

3. Malaysian Relief Agency

The goal: The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is calling on Malaysians to unite and extend assistance to those affected by the floods via monetary donations.

The organisers: The MRA is a humanitarian organisation in Malaysia with a primary objective of assisting those affected by natural disasters or armed conflicts, both local and abroad.

4. The Hope Branch

The goal: The Hope Branch is looking for monetary aid to compile necessities like dental hygiene kits, face masks, sanitisers, clean water, dry food, blankets, and diapers to donate to those in Hulu Langat and Shah Alam.

The organisers: The Hope Branch was established by Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander and Dr Jezamine Lim as an initiative to effectively raise funds for those affected by COVID-19 pandemic. They are working together with KitaJagaKita to execute speedy aid delivery.

5. MUDA

The goal: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) party is looking for volunteers to help in the post-flood cleanup as well as food and cash aid delivery to victims in Selangor and KL.

This comes after succeeding in raising its targeted donations of RM10,000 to help at least 10,000 families recover from the floods in the coming days.

The organisers: MUDA is a multi-racial and youth-centric political party in Malaysia formed by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in September 2020.

6. Budi Care

The goal: Budi Care is looking for monetary donations, basic necessity donations, and volunteers to provide assistance to the flood victims in Selangor.

The organisers: Behind Budi Care is the Selangor Muslim Students Association (PEPIAS), a platform producing Muslim student activists in the state of Selangor.

7. Happy Bank

The goal: Previously seeking assistance for basic necessities such as milk, baby diapers, towels, pillows, blankets, hygiene items, Happy Bank is now looking for public donations to expand their aid in delivering basic necessities to more flood victims.

The organisers: Happy Bank is a non-profit volunteer-based organisation that is driven by youths of all backgrounds with the aim to support and help the underprivileged and socially neglected communities in Malaysia.

8. Impactive Malaysia

The goal: Impactive Malaysia and its partners are targeting to raise RM25,000 in monetary donations to provide urgent aid in basic necessities like food, milk, pampers, pads, blankets, etc.

They are also looking for volunteers (especially those with 4-wheel drives or boats) to send aid to the flood victims in the Hulu Langat and Shah Alam areas who are in temporary placement centers.

The organisers: Impactive Malaysia is an agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports to spur youth-driven social impact initiatives through communities, NGOs, civil society organisations, philanthropic organisations, corporations, and the like.

9. Malaysia Humanity for the People Hero Association

The goal: It is looking for monetary donations to purchase emergency supplies like torchlights and raincoats, along with necessities for children and babies including food and diapers.

The organisers: Malaysia Humanity for the People Hero Association or (MY Hope Hero) is a charitable organisation established in 2018 that was also active in helping with the #BenderaPutih movement.

10. IMARET

The goal: IMARET has launched an emergency fundraising to help supply relief kits and mobilise volunteers to distribute them to those affected by the flood. They are also looking for volunteers (medical and non-medical) to distribute and attend to victims in the Klang Valley, Pahang, Kelantan, and other areas affected by the flood.

The organisers: IMARET is powered by Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM), providing humanitarian aid reliefs to disaster and outreach programmes in marginalised communities.

11. MyCARE

The goal: MyCARE’s campaign seeks donations to enable the purchases of food (RM50), women and baby necessities (RM100), and post-flood recovery assistance (RM100).

The organisers: MyCARE is a humanitarian relief network providing temporary shelters and fresh water in flood-stricken areas.

12. Global Peace Mission

The goal: Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia is looking to raise a total of RM250,000 to supply and distribute emergency aid such as hygiene kits, food, clothes and blankets, furniture and household appliances, as well as medical supplies.

The organisers: Established in September 2001, GPM Malaysia has been actively involved in providing assistance and raising funds to assist victims of war and natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, famine, and tsunamis.

11. MERCY Malaysia

The goal: MERCY Malaysia is raising funds that will go towards addressing the needs of victims including medical assistance, and providing hygiene supplies, food assistance, and other relief items.

The organisers: MERCY Malaysia is a non-profit organisation devoted to humanitarian aid during crisis and non-crisis situations.

For Clothes And Other Essentials

12. SikhInside

The goal: SikhInside is collecting food aid and other necessities like diapers, candles, and matches, along with sanitary pads to donate to victims in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, affected by the floods.

The organisers: SikhInside aims to spread awareness of Sikhism among the community, particularly the youth, and support them in their journey to embrace the religion.

13. Kembara Kitchen

The goal: Kembara Kitchen calling for the public to donate bedding (mattresses, pillows, etc.), and raw ingredient supplies (takeaway food containers, rice, along with tomato and chilli sauce), to help cook hot meals for flood victims in the Klang Valley. Monetary donations are also accepted.

The organisers: Kembara Kitchen is a catering service that also provides food aid to those in need.

14. WOMEN:girls x Groove Grocer

The goal: In collaboration with Groover Grocer, WOMEN:girls has curated a pay it forward box comprising preselected grocery essentials to be supplied to families in need.

It’s providing a box that costs RM120 which contains rice, coconut milk, soy sauce, chilli sauce, sugar, sardines, milk, dried chilies, milo, wheat flour, salt, and eggs.

The organisers: WOMEN:girls is a not-for-profit organisation that works to empower women in becoming role models and enable young girls to achieve their potential. Groove Grocer is a community-driven grocery delivery service in Malaysia.
