Just yesterday, Facebook launched their new feature, Say Thanks to help Facebook users show their gratitude to their friends. In a style that is very much similar to Facebook’s LookBack videos from their 10th anniversary, this video editing platform lets you put pictures of you and your friend (much like the ones you see in your ‘see friendship’ page) in a nice video template to share with your friends.

Once you enter the Say Thanks page, simply choose a friend and an automatic video will come up. There’s even an option to choose the photos you want instead, which I am very grateful for. When I used the feature, it automatically picked up any photo that my chosen friend and I were tagged in, like a coupon or advertisement, or even worse, a picture with an ex-boyfriend in the frame. Memories are nice, but not all memories should be included in a video thank you card.

You will need 5 pictures or more together in order to stitch a photo together, and you will have the option between two templates – ‘Old Friends’, which helps you look back on long and meaningful friendships; and ‘Friends’, to show gratitude to both new and old friends.

Once you’re happy with it, just click ‘Share’, and it will be posted on you and your friend’s timelines. You can also write a personalized message to be sent with it. It’s available today in English, French, German, Bahasa Indonesia, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.

The announcement made by Facebook on their newsroom said this: “Millions of people use Facebook every day to connect with the people and things that matter to them most. Your friends are at the core of your Facebook experience, and we are always looking for new ways to help you celebrate those friendships.”

While the concept looks interesting, I wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable for these videos to be floating around in my other friends’ timelines. Something like that feels too personal. It is, however, a nice touch for Facebook to experiment with their in-site video features with something as sweet as this. So don’t be an ungrateful pansy, send a video and show your friends that they’re more than just ‘Facebook Friends‘.
