Professional networking site LinkedIn released a list last Wednesday that highlighted the top 15 companies to work for in Malaysia.
Using its own data, LinkedIn ranked companies based on seven pillars that lead to career progression. This includes the ability to advance, skills growth, company stability, external opportunity, company affinity, gender diversity, and education background.
To be considered for the ranking, the company must have at least 500 employees. Here are the names that came out on top and what jobs they’re hiring for right now.
1. PETRONAS
Malaysia’s very own oil and gas company took the lead again, having been ranked at the top in 2021 as well. According to a Forbes article, PETRONAS proactively upskills employees to emerge stronger and more agile in a rapidly changing business environment, promoting a healthy job environment at the same time.

2. Maybank
With a goal to “humanise financial services across Asia”, this Malaysian bank has a headcount of over 25K within the country. Last year, The Star reported that Maybank is believed to be the first financial institution in the country that indicated the adoption of a hybrid work environment.

3. Bosch
Founded in Germany, Bosch is an engineering and technology company with 4,750 employees in Malaysia. It mainly produces automotive components and industrial products.

4. Permodalan Nasional Berhad
Coming in fourth is Permodalan Nasional Berhad, a company established in 1978 as one of the instruments of the Government’s New Economic Policy. Today, it’s one of the largest fund management companies in Malaysia.
Two years ago, the company’s president and group CEO said that work-from-home is a permanent option for its employees, even after the MCO.

5. B. Braun Group
B. Braun Group is a German medical and pharmaceutical device company that develops solutions for the healthcare system. Its presence here dates back 50 years ago, having established itself in Penang in 1972.

6. Standard Chartered Bank
Founded in Britain, Standard Chartered claims to be Malaysia’s oldest bank, as it opened its first bank in Penang in 1875. It employs around 85K employees across its 776 branches worldwide.

7. Prudential PLC
Headquartered in London, Prudential is an insurance company with over 2K employees in Malaysia. Prudential was founded in 1842, but Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad was first launched in the country in 1924.

8. Intel
With 13K employees in Malaysia alone, Intel is a technology company that deals with processors, cloud computing, and more. Intel is known for developing the microprocessors that many of our laptops are powered by.

9. Shell
Coming at number nine is this oil and energy company that has a headcount of 4K in Malaysia. According to Shell’s website, the company commenced operations in Malaysia in 1891.

11. Tenaga Nasional Berhad
This familiar utility company barely needs an introduction. TNB is the only electric utility company in Peninsular Malaysia and it’s also the largest publicly-listed power company in Southeast Asia.

12. Maxis
Maxis is a telecommunications company and a household name in Malaysia. Employing around 4K individuals in Malaysia, it ranks 12th on LinkedIn’s list.

Established in 1994, RHB is the fourth largest financial services group in Malaysia. It has more than 14,000 employees group-wide and a presence that spans nine countries in the ASEAN region.
