The Prive Group abruptly shuts all restaurants in S’pore, joins 1.7K+ F&B closures in 2025

Singaporean F&B collective The Prive Group has closed all its restaurants in the city-state, with all operations ceasing on Aug 31.

In a message to its suppliers, the group said: “We will be appointing a professional independent financial advisor who will contact you in due course.”

“Please note that any next steps will be handled through this advisor, and we ask for your patience as we work through this transition,” it added.

As of Aug 31, the group’s website indicated that it was operating four Prive outlets at Holland Village, Botanic Gardens, Wheelock Place, and the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), as well as the Chinese restaurant Empress located within the museum.

Both establishments at ACM will be “taken over” by Commonwealth Concepts, from Sep 1 onwards. Commonwealth Concepts is a joint venture between investment company Commonwealth Capital and Far East Organization, which operates F&B brands including Fat Cow, Pasta Mania, Bedrock Bar & Grill, Swissbake and Baker & Cook.

The Prive Group has quietly closed outlets before shutdown

First established in 2007, The Prive Group launched as one upscale restaurant at Keppel Bay. The company branched out into the nightlife industry, with notable spots such as Bang Bang, Stereolab and Mink, all of which have since closed.

By 2018, the brand had grown into a chain known for its family-friendly cafes, offering plant-based food options and cafe-style dining. While The Prive group has had its fair share of controversies in the past decade, things truly went south in 2025.

According to The Straits Times, the company closed its outlets at Jewel Changi Airport and 313 Somerset this year, with the latter outlet being repossessed by its landlord, Lendlease, in February. Its Paragon outlet, another key location for the group, was taken over by American coffee chain Blue Bottle, which opened earlier this July.

The Prive Group’s abrupt closure marks the demise of another prominent homegrown brand in Singapore, as F&B brands, both new and established, have struggled over the past few years.

One of the most well-known names to have shuttered was Jollibean, a Singaporean soy milk retailer that had more than 30 outlets islandwide. The company faced intense scrutiny in the news after it quietly shut down multiple stores in 2024, allegedly without providing its employees with prior notice.

Singapore reached an almost 20-year high in F&B closures in 2024, with over 3,000 businesses shutting down. Many operators and entrepreneurs have since spoken out about rising overhead costs, acknowledging that awards and accolades are no longer enough to ensure business viability.

It appears that we may be witnessing a similar trend in 2025. According to figures from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority reported by The Straits Times, over 1,700 F&B establishments have closed as of this August.
