Groupon S’pore cofounders launch GoFresh, an online fresh meat and seafood delivery site!

Delivery services is fairly common nowadays, ranging from online shopping site which delivers your shopping items to your doorsteps, groceries delivery, or even food delivery. There’s even an app that provides individuals with on-demand, hassle-free delivery services, helping you deliver or pick up any item you want.

Over the weekend, a whole new category has been enabled for delivery: fresh food ingredients.

Founded by the cofounders of Groupon Singapore Karl and Chris Chong, alongside new partners Julian Lee and Joanne Lui, GoFresh is a simple site that allows you to buy all your fresh meats and seafood from the comfort of your couch, with next day free delivery. You can easily browse for the latest premium meats and seafood on GoFresh and place your order for the ingredients you need. All items are carefully delivered in an ice packed, insulated box too.


If you are still worried about the freshness of the meat and seafood ingredient, fret not: CEO Julian has had extensive background in the fresh food industry. Before co-founding GoFresh, Julian co-founded Freshable Marketing, a key supplier of fresh and live seafood to top Singapore restaurants, including Crystal Jade and Seafood Paradise.

“To prepare for our store, we wanted to invest the time to maintain very high standards,” says Julian, “preferring to select only the best partners, who have had their farms for generations. We also work directly with fishermen from Boston to Scotland, to ensure we only get the freshest seafood available”.

Karl and Chris Chong on the other hand, are well known for starting Singapore’s first discount deals site Beeconomic. It was later acquired by American group buying site Groupon for a reported US$24 million in 2010, just seven months after Beeconomic’s launch. Karl became the chief executive officer of Groupon Singapore and Christopher its marketing director, until they both left the company last September.

Will Karl and Chris recreate the same success the two brothers shared at Groupon? The Chong brothers are definitely hopeful.

“We want to WOW our customers. Starting from our line up of high quality produce at competitive prices, to fast and convenient delivery, we want our customers to enjoy every step of their GoFresh shopping experience. We close the loop with satisfaction surveys, knowing that it’s a step-by-step process to improve,” says Karl.

“We’re proud to launch GoFresh and offer something new to Singaporeans,” Karl added.
